This mod reintroduces the classic Basic Farm and Improved Farm from the original Don't Starve as complementary structures to the new farming system in Don't Starve Together. These farms utilize the modern crop mechanics but retain their distinct legacy features, offering a different gameplay style focused on lower maintenance and specific utility.

  • Crafting: Basic Farm and Improved Farm are available in the Food & Farming tab. Their recipes require items associated with the current farm system.
  • Crop Mechanics: Crops grown on these farms use the new crop system and are compatible with mod-added crops. However, the underlying mechanics differ significantly from standard new farms.
  • Fertility System: Both farm types feature a fertility mechanic. Basic Farm has a maximum fertility of 6, while Improved Farm has 12. Harvesting a crop consumes 1 fertility point to leave the plant in place for another harvest. If fertility reaches 0, no seed remains, and new seeds cannot be planted until fertilizer is applied. Any fertilizer restores 1 fertility point.
  • Visual Indicators: Soil texture changes based on fertility levels, allowing players to identify depleted farms visually.
  • Maturity: Crops on both farm types remain at the mature stage indefinitely, preventing spoilage or overgrowth issues.
  • Watering Integration: The farms integrate with the new watering system. Each watering adds 25 moisture (up to 100). Crop growth consumes 15 moisture to reduce the time to the next stage by 15%.
  • Farm Differences:
    • Basic Farm: Slower growth speed, 75% chance for 1 fruit and 25% for 2 fruits per harvest, max fertility of 6, crop stress never exceeds 4, and cheaper crafting cost.
    • Improved Farm: Faster growth speed, yields 2–3 fruits per harvest, max fertility of 12, crop stress never exceeds 2, and higher crafting cost.
  • Rotation: Both farm types can be rotated using a fence gate, facilitating easier placement and design.
  • Seed Restrictions: These farms only accept specific crop seeds; random seeds cannot be planted.
  • Harvest Output: Mature crops always yield only fruits, never seeds, eliminating the need to manage excess seed inventory.
  • Giant Crops: Neither farm type can produce giant crops, even if forced by external means.
  • Seasonal Bonus: Crop growth is accelerated by 25% during Spring.
  • Placement Flexibility: Both farms can be built on dock turf or boats, offering an advantage over the new farm system in marine environments.
  • Character Quotes: Inspection lines for various farm states (crop present, empty, fertility depleted) are included for relevant characters.

The classic farms offer a slower startup and moderate output with less effort compared to the new farm system, resembling the playstyle of transplanted crops like stone fruit or bananas. They are designed to coexist with the new system rather than replace it. Players may need to breed seeds using the new farm system before utilizing them on these classic farms. Converting excess seeds from the new system into guano via birdcages is an effective strategy for maintaining high-level Improved Farms.
