Mod «[B42] Anomalies» for Project Zomboid
Anomalies is a hardcore mod that introduces randomly generated anomalous events, bringing entirely new challenges to your exploration in Knox Country.
Radioactive Anomalous Zones
- Toxic: A deadly radioactive zone. Always wear your gas mask and monitor your filters so they don't run out when you need them most.
- Frost: This anomaly has its own freezing microclimate. Bundle up to stay warm, wear your gas mask, and keep an eye on your filters.
- Thermal: An area of extreme heat where objects, houses, and zombies will be engulfed in flames. Wear light clothing, keep your gas mask on, and manage your filters carefully.
Radioactive anomalous zones do not stay in the same place forever; they dissipate as you move away from them. This means a place that was once radioactive might not be anymore, just as a place that was completely clear can suddenly become radioactive. If you are unlucky enough, you might encounter all 3 at once.
Gravitational Anomalies
Step too close, and you will be violently thrown to the ground! If you are carrying an Anomalous Radar, the fall might break it. Driving a vehicle through a gravitational anomaly will cause a short-circuit and shut down the engine.
Anomalous Mutants
- Toxic Walkers: The most common mutation. These zombies exude radiation. Use a gas mask with filters for close-quarters combat, or eliminate them from a distance.
- Squealer: Essentially a Sprinter, but with a unique, terrifying look and custom sound effects.
- Volatiles: DO NOT GET CLOSE. If they feel threatened by your proximity, they will explode. The explosion deals damage and has a 1% chance to severely injure you. Avoid combat or take them out from afar. Shooting them has a chance to hit their attached gas tanks, triggering a massive explosion that draws attention within a 20-tile radius. Being inside a car reduces the damage taken, but the shockwave might stall your engine.
- Shadows: Creatures born from the night that lurk in dark spots. They are immune to physical damage, so save your ammo. Do not let them get close, or you will be dragged into the darkness. Run toward the light or shine your flashlight directly at them to purify them.
Radioactive Fog & Survival Gear
Anomalies will spawn hordes hidden within the radioactive fog. Wipe them out to scavenge new gear, including the Aurora and PA10 gas masks.
- AntiRad: Found as loot on zombies spawned by radioactive anomalous zones. This medical item removes -40 radiation from your body. Beware: it must be used while you are wearing a gas mask with active filters, otherwise it will be completely useless!
- Protection Artifacts: Secure your base (or any location, like a gas station) by preventing the creation of radioactive anomalous zones. You can have a maximum of 5 active artifacts. Use a Stabilizer to boost their power or stabilize unstable artifacts.
- Anomalous Radar: Find one in the world or craft it yourself. It allows you to hear when you are near radioactive zombies or zones, and measures your distance from gravitational anomalies.
Mid-Save Compatibility
It is safe to add this mod to an ongoing game (mid-save), but with a caveat. Because anomalous zones are generated randomly, there is a chance one might spawn right inside your base! If you want to be safe, make a backup of your save, enter debug mode, spawn a Greater Stable Protection Artifact, place it where you see fit, and activate it. Your home will now be protected!
