Update Notes:

  • Fixed fish display categories so all items now correctly show as Food
  • Rebalanced raw fish (PoisonPower = 3) to increase survival risk
  • Resized all textures to 18x18 and improved overall item consistency

Fishing Expansion completely reimagines the fishing experience in Project Zomboid by introducing a wide variety of new fish, seafood, and rare variants, while also rebalancing how food, risk, and reward interact.

This mod introduces over 50+ new fish and seafood types, covering everything from freshwater catches to ocean creatures and exotic finds. You'll encounter:

  • Classic fish like bass, snapper, grouper, and mackerel
  • Unique species like bowfin, gar, and northern snakehead
  • Seafood such as shrimp, lobster, crab, mussels, squid, and octopus
  • Exotic additions like alligator meat

Many of these fish also come in rare variants, including Blue, Gold, Pink, and Rainbow versions.

Bait System Overhaul

  • Worms (Base.Worm): Catch both vanilla fish and modded fish. Balanced and reliable for general use.
  • Steak (Base.Steak): Guarantees a catch every time and only pulls from the mod's fish pool. No junk, no wasted time.

The Truth About Raw Fish
Eating raw fish intentionally increases hunger instead of reducing it, causes boredom and unhappiness, can make your character sick, and applies a small health penalty.

Why Cooking Matters
Cooked fish properly restores hunger, removes all negative effects from raw consumption, provides strong nutrition and calories, reduces unhappiness, and performs even better when eaten hot.

The Goal of This Mod
Fishing Expansion is designed to make fishing feel like a reliable survival system, a rewarding gameplay loop, a meaningful risk versus reward mechanic, and something that is genuinely enjoyable.
