Mod «[PZCh] Growing Up» for Project Zomboid
Growing Up is a custom Build 42 challenge scenario for Project Zomboid where you begin the end of the world as a child and have to survive long enough to become an adult. You do not start as a normal survivor with a profession, useful skills, and full-sized combat confidence. You start young, weak, frightened, and out of your depth. Your body grows over time. Your fear changes over time. Your skills unlock over time. And if you survive long enough, the scared kid you started with slowly becomes a capable survivor.
What Growing Up adds:
- Start as a child — begin between ages 8 and 14 instead of as a normal adult survivor.
- Grow into adulthood — age over time until 18, with changing body scale, height, weight, and movement.
- Child archetypes — choose from Scout, Jock, Nerd, Shy, Bully, or Crybaby, each with different starting traits, items, and milestones.
- Age-based progression — body and capabilities change as you grow, including speed, milestone trait changes, and skill access.
- Persistent fear system — young survivors live with a panic floor, night fear, nightmares, and emotional vulnerability that slowly ease with age and experience.
- Comfort items matter — teddy bears and similar items can help calm panic.
- Literacy progression — kids begin with limited reading ability and have to learn through simpler reading material before advanced books become useful.
- Age-gated skills — some skills are throttled or locked until you are old enough.
- Driving restrictions — you cannot properly drive as a small child, and older kids may stall engines while learning.
- Firearm penalties — heavy recoil punishes young survivors until they gain experience.
- Custom school escape intro — an opening scenario with scripted progression, blocked exits, scavenging pressure, and a desperate escape sequence.
- Kid zombies — child-sized infected can appear in the world and inside the challenge setup.
- Growth HUD — track age, height, kill count, fear level, XP rate, and upcoming milestones.
- Huge custom voice system — includes a large set of voice lines and event reactions for fear, growth, milestones, sleep, wounds, weather, cooking, books, zombies, and more.
Growing Up is built as a survival story. You are smaller than everyone else. You learn slower. You scare easier. Some things are physically harder. Some things are mentally harder. The early game is designed to feel unfair in exactly the way surviving as a kid in Project Zomboid should feel unfair. You get older. You get calmer. You unlock new abilities. You stop reacting like a terrified child to every single problem. Eventually, if you make it that far, you stop being a kid at all.
Scenario highlights: start with no normal profession fantasy, survive a much more vulnerable early game, escape a terrifying opening scenario, learn to read, fight, drive, and adapt over time, live through birthdays, milestones, and body changes, hear your character react to the apocalypse with custom voice work throughout the run.
