Mod «Tomb's Player Body Overhaul» for Project Zomboid
Tomb's Player Body Overhaul works in Project Zomboid version 42.13 and supports multiplayer. It is a client-side mod. Refer to the multiplayer instructions below for correct setup.
Spongie's Customiser is currently incompatible. If you see a black screen, disable Spongie's Customiser until further notice.
Tomb's Player Body Overhaul B41+B42
This mod replaces the default Project Zomboid character models with more detailed versions, aiming for a “Vanilla+” appearance. It supports both B41 and B42 and integrates with Spongie's Character Customisation. Using Spongie's mod is not required but strongly advised.
December 2025 content update: Companion mod Tomb's Wardrobe: Alternative is now available.
Important: After enabling any body mod, you must restart Project Zomboid for the new models to appear.
The mod includes five files:
— Body – Contains the model files. No textures are included, so vanilla or custom textures can be used. Body mods do not use XML files, so a game restart is required for changes to apply.
Choose one of the following texture options:
— Textures – Default texture with underwear visible.
— Textures [DOLL] – Plain, featureless skin for use with in-game underwear.
— Textures [NUDE] – Includes non-explicit adult features like pubic hair and female nipples.
— Customisation – Adds 9 extra head options per gender to Spongie's Character Customisation menu (total of 10 head choices). Requires Spongie's Character Customisation to work.
— Load all mod files after Spongie's Customisation in the mod list.
— Restart Project Zomboid after installation. Meshes only load at startup.
Set the maximum texture size in game settings to at least 512 for best results.
When adding the mod to an existing save, enable it both on the main menu mods screen and within the save.
Multiplayer Notes:
Each player must have the mod installed and active before joining a server. Body models only load during game startup.
Minor clipping may occur with vanilla or modded clothing. A compatibility patch is available to address these issues and add support for popular mods.
Performance:
The new models use higher polygon counts and higher-resolution textures than vanilla. They also replace all zombie models. In testing (B42, 1000+ zombies), performance loss was about 1 FPS compared to vanilla.
