Mod «Zed's Item Tiers» for Project Zomboid
Zed's Item Tiers introduces a probability-based rarity system to Project Zomboid, assigning tiers such as Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, or Legendary to items upon spawn. Higher tiers provide enhanced stats, including lighter bags, deadlier weapons, and tougher clothes, ensuring that scavenging and crafting remain engaging. A key feature is the active Thermoregulation mechanic for tiered clothing, which dynamically adjusts insulation based on body temperature.
How it works:
- Tiers are assigned when items spawn or appear in containers. Common items function like vanilla items with no tier bonuses.
- Each tier has a default spawn weight. Probabilities can be tuned in the mod’s Lua files.
- Tooltips display the item’s tier and applicable bonuses for easy comparison.
Tiers (default chances):
- Common — 80% — White (no bonuses)
- Uncommon — 16% — Green
- Rare — 3.2% — Blue
- Epic — 0.64% — Purple
- Legendary — 0.16% — Gold
Thermoregulation (Clothing):
- All clothing from Rare tier and above includes Thermoregulation.
- If covered body parts run hot, insulation shifts down to provide cooling support.
- If covered body parts run cold, insulation shifts up to provide warming support.
- The shift range depends on the item's Thermoregulation bonus; higher-tier clothing adapts more significantly.
- Thermoregulated clothing self-dries faster when wet.
Bonuses by item type:
- Weapons: Enhanced damage, crit chance, and handling stats. Weapon weight adjustments require the optional Java path (see ZombieBuddy).
- Clothing: Improved bite/scratch defense, run speed, vision, and hearing modifiers. Insulated gear features active thermoregulation and faster drying.
- Containers: Increased capacity, encumbrance reduction, and max item size support.
- Drainables: Increased fluid capacity for items using fluid containers.
- Literature: Improved mood-related stats and reading speed where supported.
- Flashlights / Battery Gear: Reduced battery drain.
- Food: Improved hunger reduction on higher tiers.
- Legendary Bonus: All worn Legendary items provide a small mood and stress boost.
Crafting:
Crafted item tiers follow a Factorio-style logic based on ingredient tiers. The result is never worse than the highest tier ingredient («floor»), mixed inputs influence the roll, and relevant crafting skills can slightly improve or worsen the outcome.
Optional: ZombieBuddy
The ZombieBuddy mod enables Java-side bonuses that pure Lua cannot apply cleanly, most notably weapon weight adjustments. The mod is fully playable without it, but Java-only perks will be skipped.
